Ferrari Cavallino Magazine #257 – October / November 2023

-Main feature and cover car:

1959 Ferrari 250 Tour de France s/n 1143 GT. A very special car, sold new in Switzerland and raced in period. It spent most of its life in Europe, where it was transformed and resprayed before ending up in an American collection. Recently restored with the greatest respect for originality by the Paul Russell restoration shop, it has now been returned to its original configuration. As such, it has never been featured in a magazine before.

-Main feature

2009 Ferrari 430 Scuderia s/n 164380. Created starting from the F430 Berlinetta, the 430 Scuderia (without the F at the beginning of its name) was created to offer a better driving experience, much closer to that of a racing car than a normal road-legal model. Several of its improved characteristics were road evolutions of the Challenge cars used in GT racing. Michael Schumacher was deeply involved in its development, and this alone should be considered a sufficient guarantee of its caliber. All of the above explains why, today, the Scuderia is considered one of the most desirable Ferrari youngtimers, and why it is still widely regarded as one of the best and most exciting road-legal Berlinetta Ferraris to drive. The feature covers both the story of the model and the story of the specimen portrayed, which is driven as it was meant to be, and is considered so much part of the family that it even gets used for the kind of practical daily activities that Ferraris are not usually intended for…. The 430 Scuderia feature includes a full interview with F430 and 430 Scuderia designer Frank Stephenson, who offers what is very much an insider view of the stylistic development of this model.

-One Off

This issue celebrates the 45th anniversary of Cavallino magazine, first published in October-November 1978. The cover of that issue, showing a very special piece of art featuring a prancing horse crest, is now legendary. Enzo Ferrari himself, on seeing it, asked for a color print of it to frame. But he got something more… something that was to hang over his fireplace in Fiorano for the rest of his days. A wonderful and little-known Ferrari story, finally told by an insider…

-Events

Full coverage of the always amazing Monterey Car Week, with a special focus on Pebble Beach, The Quail and Casa Ferrari, and exclusive coverage of the Cavalcade, the most exclusive Ferrari event, which recently took place in Rome.
